Sound Healing in the Andean Shamanic Tradition RETREAT

The power of sound, vibration, and frequencies are foundations we must understand to find mental, emotional, and physical health.

During this 3-day, 2-night retreat, a 7th-generation indigenous yachak (shaman) will teach and share with up to 14 participants his own indigenous people's pre-Incan "sound healing" practices that he and his ancestors have used in ceremonies for centuries.

Tayta Willak explains the related fundamental principles of indigenous wellness, and healing as they are understood and practiced here in the Andes.
Unlike Western medicine, good health means creating and maintaining a state of balance and harmony with nature in our daily life so that we do not "distance ourselves from Pachamama," and become sick.

Using ancient, modern, and musical instruments from nature, the voice and the body, this yachak (Andean shaman) draws on the spiritual energy of the condor, mountains, Pachamama, the four elements of nature, sun, and moon to help his own indigenous community members maintain good physical, emotional and mental health.

He also teaches sound healing practitioners how to balance themselves before sound healing sessions by connecting with the healing spiritual power of the four elements of nature. He teaches intutitive sound healing that is spontaneous. In this retreat, Tayta WIllak shares the shamanic codes for accessing the spiritual power of each natural element.

Here are a few examples. In Andean shamanism,  singing bowls produce pleasant and relaxing sounds, but don't provide lasting healing power. Large hand drums are more effective than small drums in healing imbalances of the lower uku pacha area of the body. Whistling and high-pitched flutes move energy in the hanak pacha region to dislodge troubling thoughts. They also help regulate shallow or labored breathing due to emotional distress. Humming and singing speaks to the heart in the kay pacha. Stress and tension can be eased through instruments closely related to the sound of the water.

Tayta Willak is happy to share these tools and practices for the first time in his beautiful ceremonial retreat setting in the English language.

Andean instruments are provided by Pakarinka Ushay, but participants are welcome to bring their own.

The fee* includes all teachings, storytelling, Andean sound healing ceremonies at natural sacred sites, a pachamanka ceremonial meal plus six nutritious runa mikuy meals, lodging at the ceremonial center or in the family homes of indigenous neighbors in the small village of Agato, and round-trip transportation from San Francisco Park in Cotacachi or from the Otavalo bus terminal.

This retreat is held at Pakarinka Ushay, Agato, Otavalo, in the Andes mountains of Ecuador. We are two hours north by car, and four hours north by bus  from the Mariscal Sucre airport in Quito. Quito airport pick-up and drop-off is available for a fee with at least one week's advance notice.
